H Conley is a lifelong New Yorker and journalist with a Master’s from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY. They studied Health & Science, audio production, and feature writing. They report on food, climate, queer health and identity, as well as those who are blind and visually impaired. They won the Excellence in Food Coverage Award from the National Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists for their article about the intersection of trans identity and fermentation featured in Bon Appétit’s first Pride Package. Their work has also been published in The Guardian, STAT News, Edible Manhattan, City Limits, This Is Uncomfortable, the Embodied Podcast from WUNC, and Meat and Three from HRN.

They attended Bard College where they worked on local farms, studied sustainable agriculture and food systems, and ran the Surrealist Circus. After graduating in 2017 they became a cheddar cheesemaker. In 2019, they started producing audio features about different aspects of the food world for Heritage Radio Network’s flagship news podcast, Meat and Three. They were honored as an NLGJA CONNECT Scholar for The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists 2022 National Convention and as a Lambda LIterary Emerging Voices 2023 Nonfiction Fellow. They’ve worked as a fact checker for Bon Appétit/Epicurious, a researcher for the podcast AP Studio Files, and an audio engineer for HRN.

H is also an artist who has created cover art for the musicians Noon and Recluse Spider as well as podcast art for Time for Lunch by Heritage Radio Network and RANDOM by Catherine Bloom. Their pet portraits can be found on Instagram.
